Security is important especially now that browsers are informing humans when a website is insecure. I found a small hack to make this wordpress site of mine use HTTPS certificate issued by LetsEncrypt.

I host behind a cpanel, so I just went to my public_html folder and added this to the .htaccess file

RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} 80
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https:your_domain_here/$1 [R,L]

I hope this helps you 🙂

Fear and Social Control

“Fear is the foundation of most governments” John Adams, second President of the United States (1797–1801), the first Vice President (1789–97), and as a Founding Father was a leader of American independence from Great Britain.

This explains why Donald J. Trump is the president of the United States of America and why we still have tribal politics in Kenya. This amazing video from Academy of Ideas explains how fear can be used to control a society.

In Kenya this has be evident in the past elections:

  • In 2002 the Narc party won with the narrative “We don’t Moi to continue been president, he has been a dictator for long” The fear of Moi was used by the Narc party to win the elections.
  • In 2007, Mwai Kibaki was able to win a re-election based on the narrative “We don’t Raila to lead. We can trust what he will do”
  • In 2013, the Jubilee Party used the cases against Uhuru and Ruto to create a narrative “The Western countries want to control our nation and outcome of the elections”
  • In 2017 what will be narrative.

Disclaimer: I am no politician neither I’m I a political scientist just interested in philosophy.

Git Pull Multiple Repositories

If you are like me you read code from very interesting projects. You also like to be up-to-date with the projects. I have learnt a lot from reading other people projects. Some of my favorites include:

To keep up with the code you need to do multiple git pull commands on the different repositories. To help me do this I use a bash script to git pull from the multiple remote repositories.

for i in */.git; do (
echo $i;
cd $i/..;
git pull;
); done

The script loops through each directory in the current directory that is a git repository and runs the git pull command.

The Volume Boot Has Only 0 Bytes Disk Space Remaining

I updated my Ubuntu Desktop OS over the Easter weekend. After the update I static getting a error dialog window with the message “The volume boot has only 0 bytes disk space remaining”. After some research I discovered that the problem was that I had multiple Linux Kernel Images on my machine after the update which was consuming the space. To list the available linux images I did:

dpkg --get-selections | grep "linux-image-[[:digit:]].*" | tr "\t" ";" | cut -d ";" -f1

The output:

So there we go I have many linux images. I removed the first four and left the last two:

sudo apt-get purge linux-image-3.19.0-33-generic linux-image-3.19.0-43-generic linux-image-3.19.0-47-generic linux-image-3.19.0-49-generic
